Tell us a little about yourself and your business/businesses.
I specialize in career services by helping students, recent graduates and young professionals create the career they want. Often times, young professionals don’t have the right resumes, interview skills, or cover letters to get them in the room to get the job they want.
With Impact Apparel, we promote what it means to be a strong and bold individual by also donating part of proceeds to organizations that support Black women and girls. I want the community I serve to benefit in every way possible. I am proud of both businesses because I can see how each service or product helps people.
What does a typical day look like for you as an entrepreneur?
I juggle a lot, so I must make sure I get sleep and eat well. I am still a full-time student and am involved in organizations at Florida International University. Every day is different. A typical day starts at 6:30/7am with a devotional, 8-9am answering and sending emails for school and organizations, 10am-1pm I am studying for classes and meetings. Usually the day ends with actual classes, creating content, and studying again for exams. I try to be in bed by 11pm, but sometimes I am zoned in and don’t get to close my eyes until later.
Name a challenge you’ve faced throughout your journey? How did you overcome it and RISE?
As a Black female my biggest challenge has been myself and proving to others that I deserve to be here. So many times, I have been the only Black female or even the only Black person in certain situations. My rising moment was my faith and finding amazing mentors that have helped guide me throughout my journey. There are so many things I have to learn, and I realize that building my support system will get me through those moments.
What advice would you give to someone who is aspiring to become an entrepreneur?
My biggest advice would be to create a plan and just go for it. There will never be a “perfect time” to do it but do it. Whether it scares you or motivates you, do it. Everybody has a unique lens that they view the world in. Use your lens and become the entrepreneur you want to be. Life as an entrepreneur is not a one size fits all. You have to do what works for you.
